The Lined Seahorse is a unique fish. It swims upright and has a head at a right angle to its body. Instead of scales, it has 50 bony plates covered with a thin skin. It has a prehensile tail that it uses for grasping and holding onto things. It changes color depending on its diet and surroundings. The male lined seahorse carries and cares for the eggs in a brood pouch and gives birth to the offspring. Seahorses engage in mating rituals that include dancing and communicating with each other. Seahorses mate for life!
